Dear Friends,

Change is a fact of life ! This week Derrick Marcus, Editor of 'Spotlight', the official news bulletin of the British and Commonwealth Community, addressed this subject:

"One of the things that happen when you become involved in Community, Club, Social or even Condominium activities is you get to hear an awful lot of complaints. Sometimes the complaints are genuine and obviously need some action to be taken. Very often they are related to, what for a better word, I will call "change". People do not like change. Sometimes it is to do with change of people who are running the activities, some like them and some do not.

Practically all community, club, social and condominium activities have a democratic process to allow members to choose whom they would like to represent them. They also have periodic meetings to discuss whom they would like to represent them. They also have periodic meetings to discuss the various activities involved. Most of the complaints I have listened to recently focus on "things are not what they used to be". That is very true, but this is true all over the world. It is true in our companies; it is true in practically all of our daily life.

Perhaps in our own small community world, we are closer to some of the changes. I often ask what is it that the person complaining would like, and most often the answer is vague and almost always relates to the past, or to the people running their particular interest. When I also ask whether they check when the group of the interest of the person meets, or when they elect their representatives, or if they have ever tried to offer alternatives, mostly they never have even bothered.

So the message for 2008 is BECOME INVOLVED. The more you are involved the more you will understand change, even if you may not agree with it !"

Yes, there are also changes at our Cathedral, reflecting the changes in spiritual leadership. Therefore we feel the above editorial is very appropriate. Next week we will suggest how YOU CAN BECOME INVOLVED !

Love, Michael and Sandy
