In this page you find information about our Church: what is the Anglican Cathedral and what is the Parish of Saint Paul. Also a menu for other information about the Brazilian Episcopal Anglican Church. |
"A minha casa será chamada Casa de Oração para todos os povos." Isaías 56.7 Quem vier, de onde vier, que venha em paz. |

Our Church was the first Anglican Church in São Paulo. It was built to attend the religious needs of the British engineers who came to build the São Paulo railways. The first temple was built near the Luz Train Station and was consecrated on the 23rd November 1873.
For nearly 90 years Anglican services in English were held there.
However as São Paulo grew, the area surrounding the Church fell into decline and the community moved away. Archdeacon B. J. Townsend, OBE, the Rector of the Church at that time, embarked on an ambitious project to move the Church to its present site. On the 31st December 1961 the last service was held in that temple.
The cornerstone of the present Church was laid on the 24th November 1963 and, finally on 13th May 1967, the Rt. Rev. G. T. Tucker consecrated our beautiful Church.
In 1972 our Church associated itself with the Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil and in 1995 became the Cathedral of the Diocese of São Paulo.
